Marlette Twp. man suspected in rape
MARLETTE TWP. — A 36-year-old Marlette Township man has been charged with raping a female juvenile at his home.
Earl Northrop was arraigned in 73rd District Court Feb. 15. He was charged with criminal sexual conduct first degree, CSC second degree, kidnapping (restraining for sexual contact) and child abuse second degree. His preliminary exam is scheduled for Feb. 28.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Post in Caro investigated the complaint and arrested Northrop on Feb. 14.
The troopers executed a search warrant at the Marlette Township residence, and obtained numerous pieces of evidence. They were assisted by the Marlette Police Department, conservation officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and a Michigan State Police Canine Team from the Lapeer Post. Sgt. Jeff Hook said the canine team was used for evidence purposes.
