City Manager Dave Faber presented a smaller 2012-13 general fund budget to the Sandusky City Council Monday evening.

The approved budget for the fiscal year beginning March 1 totals $1,687,000, down from the current year’s projected ending balance of $1,817,680 on Feb. 29.

The major revenue declines are in property tax collections, down $40,000, and state revenue sharing, a drop of $26,000.

No major expenditures are planned for the general fund, other than the possible purchase of a police car, according to Faber.

“No big ticket items,” he said.

There will be money to continue the flower beautification project downtown, and to begin replacing the worn American flags that are displayed on street poles.

Wages for union and non-union employees are frozen in the budget.

The local streets budget shows $300,000 whicht includes curb, gutter and widening of one block of Worth Street south of M-46. The major streets budget totals $150,000, with money for curb and gutter on one block of Hart Street north of M-46. Money is set aside for sidewalk work and cracksealing in both budgets.

The city is also planning to sand blast the interior and exterior of the water tower, which will cost an estimated $350,000. Financing is being worked on. The city could sell bonds, finance the cost through the maintenance company with payments spread over seven years, or transfer money from various city funds.
