ISABEL EOLA KURSINSKY SANDUSKY

Isabel Eola Kursinsky, age 93, of Sandusky, passed away, Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Stonegate Village Assisted Living in Sandusky.

She was born November 7, 1918 in Delaware Twp., Minden City, the daughter of the late Floyd Leroy and Mary Adeline (Mahon) Thompson.

She attended Kelley Rural School and later graduated from Deckerville High School in June 1936. As an 8th grader, at the age of 12, she was the spelling champion of Delaware Twp.

The next week the winner of each township and the second high went to Sandusky to compete again to determine the winner. It was the highest contested spelling contest ever held in the county and she won after spelling 900 words that day. After graduation from High School she went to Detroit and attended Calculating and Secretarial Institute. She then was employed as a comptometer operator at Briggs Manufacturing Company and US Rubber Company.

Isabel was united in marriage to Earle Kursinsky on May 18, 1946 in Deckerville. He preceded in death on October 1, 1997.

She is survived by three sons, David (Carolyn) Kursinsky of Utica, Duane (Wanda) Kursinsky of Sandusky, Lowell Kursinsky of Warren; two daughters, Jean (Richard) Lockard of Elkton, Lorna (Steve) Pickett of El Reno, Okla.; one sister, Marjorie Maurer of Ruth; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and George Thompson.

Funeral services were held at Peace Lutheran Church, Sandusky with Rev. Richard Tino who officiated.

Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Minden City.
