SHS’s Stauffer signs to SC4
Kelcey Stauffer (middle) of Sandusky signed a letter of intent last Wednesday to attend and play volleyball at SC4 next fall. Seated with Stauffer is Chuck Weisner, SC4 women’s volleyball coach, and Kristen Guibord, SHS varsity volleyball coach.

Kelcey Stauffer, a senior at Sandusky, last Wednesday signed a letter of intent to attend and play volleyball at SC4 next fall. A four-year varsity player for the Lady Redskins, the 5’7”, Stauffer has transformed from a back row player as a freshman to a middle hitter this past fall. Now, she will likely play another position for SC4 Coach Chuck Weisner.
“I was a middle hitter here (the last couple of years). Obviously, it’s a different game in college. I’ll move to an outside hitter, most likely,” Stauffer noted.
Kristen Guibord, the SHS varsity volleyball coach the last two seasons, added that she feels Stauffer will adapt well at the next level.
“I think Kelcey will be a great outside hitter. Her work ethic will make her become successful there,” Guibord said. “Not too many kids are willing to put the time in that it takes..... but she loves volleyball.”
Stauffer, who has also excelled in basketball and softball at Sandusky, will follow her sister, Jenna, at SC4. Jenna Stauffer has played for the Lady Skippers women’s basketball team the past two seasons.
Kelcey Stauffer, a 2nd Team All- County and All-GTC East volleyball player this past fall, is relishing the chance to keep playing a sport she adores.
“I’’m very excited and grateful for this opportunity,” she remarked. “I knew I wasn’t ready to give up volleyball after four years and wanted to go some place to play.”
In the past year, Stauffer met Coach Weisner and eventually felt SC4 was right for her.
“I had gone to a couple of camps at SC4 and talked to Coach about playing,” Stauffer said. “And, then, I went to a couple of practices and I really liked it.”
At SC4, Stauffer will take classes that work toward an eventual career as a nurse anesthetist. After her two years there, she expects to transfer to Oakland University.
First, though, she will get a taste at playing at a higher level on an AAU team coached by Weisner. Included on that team will be Caitlin Dalbec, a back row player from Cros-Lex, who also signed recently to play at SC4.
Coach Guibord is happy to see how Weisner is trying to build his program at the community college. And, now, the Sandusky coach can watch one of her products show her skills beyond the high school stage.
“I think Coach Weisner is trying to get more local kids to play there. I think there’s a lot of talent around this area,” Guibord commented
Kelcey Stauffer is the daughter of Lynne’ and Mike Stauffer of Sandusky.
