Let’s talk about Sandusky!

Circle the calendar for the annual Purses for a Purpose fundraiser benefitting the Sandusky Elementary and High School libraries. The event in honor of Emily Woltman is Sat. Feb. 10 in the Benchwarmers’ banquet room. Doors open at 5 p.m. Bidding and sale is at 5:30 p.m. Bidding ends at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and include light appetizers. New and gently used purses, wallets, scarves and jewelry.

It’s sweetheart time at Sandusky High School! The 2018 Sweetheart festivities featuring the crowning of the king and queen at half-time of the boys’ varsity basketball game against Brown City on Fri., Feb. 2, and the Sweetheart dances for junior and senior high students on Sat., Feb. 3.

At Sandusky Elementary, parents can learn about their children’s progress during Parent-Teacher Conferences Feb. 8 from 5-8 p.m.

Calling all men! “Get in the Game Men’s Conference” is Sat., Feb. 3 at Countryside Free Methodist Church, 912 West Sanilac Rd. Get in the Game runs from 8-3:30 p.m. with a tailgate party lunch and snacks, breakout sessions featuring tips on fly fishing, archery and golf, and guest speakers including 4-time Iron Man Chris Swanson, comedian Mike Williams and Jack Eason from Crossover Ministries International. Here are some taste-pleasing events at two local churches! The Sandusky Presbyterian Church, 104 Lexington St., has its famous Swiss Steak Dinner Fri., Feb. 2 from 4:30-7 p.m., with take-outs available. And the Sandusky First United Methodist Men will serve their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tues., Feb. 13 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at 68 Lexington Street. Pancakes, sausage, beverage and sherbet will be served. Prices are $5 for adults, and $3 for children under 12.

Take care of your health! McKenzie Health System offers Lunch & Learn Feb. 21 with the topic, “Tips for Healthy Eating and Fitness.” The program is from 12-1 p.m. in the MHS Dining Room, 120 Delaware St. Cost is $5. Register required, call 810-648-6127.

The Healthy Lifestyle Workshop offered by McKenzie Health System Feb. 26 features the topic, “Social Media and Cyberbullying: A Community Concern.” The free program is at 5:30 p.m. in the MHS Dining Room. Register by calling 810-648-6127.

The Sandusky Lions Club calendar sign at the main corner downtown is getting an upgrade. The club is raising $20,000 for a digital upgrade to the sign that features community events. When the upgrade is completed, the familiar sign at the traffic light will display multiple community service messages, weather warnings and emergency communications. The Lions are accepting donations for the project which is expected to be completed by June. For more information, contact Lion Sharon Danek at 810- 648-4216.

The Sandusky Baby Pantry is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of the month at Maple Valley School, 138 Maple Valley Street. Free to any Sanilac County family, everything from maternity and children’s clothing sizes newborn thru six, to toys, blankets, baby equipment and bottles.
